Practical Ways to Use Outsourcing in Any Stage of Business

Covid has brought about change and we aren't getting off this particular roller coaster anytime soon. Being agile in your business is the key to staying afloat and the easiest way to do that is with a flexible workforce.

As a follow up to my last post on why businesses should consider outsourcing, I thought I’d follow up with some practical ways that outsourced marketing can work for your organization at any stage of business.

Start Ups

Start up organizations often need a senior level marketer to wear a strategic hat at the table and yet don’t have the budget for a full-time employee. In these cases it can be helpful for them to consider a “CMO for hire” model. Essentially you share a freelance strategic marketer with one or more other organizations, enabling you to get the experience and insight that you need at a cost that you can afford.

Small Businesses

Small businesses often have a dedicated marketing role, but typically it is a junior position most focused on execution. Marketing a small business is crucial for growth, but can also easily fall by the wayside. Small business owners wear all the hats, and do all the things, and that includes managing marketing in whatever form. As such, marketing often gets sidelined in favour of acute issues or more visible projects. It can be helpful to have an outsourced marketing leadership role that works with you as an owner and your internal marketing person to set plans and strategies and manage execution. This allows the business owner to focus on the business at hand and ensures that marketing remains a key focus.

Mature larger organizations

Large organizations too can benefit from outsourced marketing support when the marketing team experiences a skills gap or needs some additional short term support. Often times a project will arise that the existing team doesn’t have the necessary skills to complete. Bringing in freelance marketing with the specific skill needed can not only make the project more efficient but can equip your team with the knowledge they need to be able to take on a similar project in house the next time.

COVID has put a tremendous amount of stress on those remaining in an organization. Perhaps it isn't possible yet to hire back full time roles, but are there projects that you could give to a freelancer to avoid burnout of your existing workforce?
